I'll Take You Down, Old Lady! Yes, I Will!

Oh looky! Enchanted woodland creatures are slowly returning to the happy kingdom of Bee and Rose! I hear bluebirds singing! It's a lovely day! I know...I know...the last two days were a bit frightening in this neck of the woods, but the scary b*tch witch lady is gone...bye, bye...no worries! Want to know how I know this? Because rubber ducky doesn't look like this anymore... Whew! She's back to her lovely princessy self again! So, yesterday, I am trying to pull myself out of my hormonal cesspool by focusing on happy thoughts. I got through our school morning by shoving 600 Hershey kisses in my mouth and drinking 5 gallons of coffee. I did a very, very lame-o post about gnomes that I actually published, then removed within about 15 minutes. (Sorry to those of you who endured that nightmare...if I could erase those horrid images from your brains with a mind swipe, I would do it! I was trying to ride the happy thoughts train and I like gnomes...usually...yesterday they just i...

Old Moms Open a Can of Whoop A** at the Park

Hi...I know you may be a bit frightened by the title of this post.  Not to worry!  While I can put my "bad-a$$" panties on for certain occasions, most of the time I'm a pretty docile creature:)  However, there is a skeleton in my closet that a friend of mine reminded me about recently and insisted that I share it with the world...more specifically, the old moms of the world.   Now when I say old, I mean old like me...(I was turning 43 at the time)...not elderly...although since hitting my 40's, I feel elderly when I get up in the morning, but that's another post!  It happened a few years back when I ran into a close friend who had recently turned 39.  Looking back, it is actually pretty funny!  So let's get cozy and ready for my ramble...or maybe I should say rumble (wink!) My friend and I took our kids out to a local park one fine fall day. We were dressed in typical "old" mom attire...jeans, cute t-shirts, banana clips and shades. (Yes, I w...

I Wanna Be A Woman and Have A Husband

My darling six year old shared this lovely tidbit with her father last night...her father, who has already had multiple heart attacks...literally. "I don't even want to know this," he says completely traumatized. Gee, Chilly, why not??? You are watching "The Bachelor" for goodness sakes! Aren't you the romantic one? (No...you're not mistaken...you do hear lots of sarcasm in that question...) What is surprising about this turn of events for you?? The fact that she's 6 and already thinking about her nuptials, or the fact that she wants to be 25 already? At least she didn't say, "I want to be like Barbie and dance around a pole for money!" "You're not getting married!" he says sternly. "Yes, I am" she says looking him dead in the eyes. "No boy stands a chance with you while I'm around," he laughs in his "I'm gonna meet all your potential boyfriends with a high powered weapon" voice. ...

My Checkered Preppy Past

So, I just finished reading this book.... Jen Lancaster (once again) had me giggling and cackling from start to finish of this book.  It's a memoir where she uses her fashion choices of her youth to tell her story. It got me thinking about what my fashion memoir would "look like" and it hit me like a ton of grosgrain ribbon belts... I'm still stuck in my preppy 80's past (and my 70's hippie/gypsy style, but we'll save the 70's vibe for another day)....especially in the shoe department and with anything plaid.  Show me a pair of Minnetonka moccasins , Sperry Topsiders, Bass Weejuns  and colorful espadrilles and I'll bubble over like a bottle of freshy popped champagne.  As for plaid...I just can't get enough of plaid! I wore these all the time in my youth.... (sporto duck shoe...I had these in multiple colors)     If you look in my closet today, you will still find Tretorns  (now sporting a pink chevron), Sperry topsiders (now in plaid) a...

Playing Hooker and Getting the Boom Boom Pow

I've been playing hooky from the world (and from blogging) with my kids this week. We are officially done with our school year! Hooray! Since we've all been through a lot with Chilly and his health stuff the last few months (not to mention all of the other stinky mojo), I decided it was time for me to spend some quality time just hanging out with my two offspring with no distractions. It can be pretty overwhelming for the kiddos watching their dad deal with his diabetes and heart condition. We just need some "down" time to chillax. My kids kept asking me if I was going to get in trouble because I wasn't blogging. Apparently, they have been tipped off about some sort of bloggy police force that may write me a ticket for non-blogging. I assured them it would be fine and that we were just going to play hooky for a few days. Later that same day, a cashier at Target asked Cat what she'd been doing for the day. She smiled at her and said, "I've been playing...

Tuesday's Tribute: Cat's Guest Post (Her Afternoon with an Irishman!)

My Tuesday's Tribute is to my lovely Irish dancer daughter, Catherine, age 6! She has been working hard at her dance lessons and will be in many performances this month! Catherine is my guest co-poster today. She wants to share some exciting news with you ! Guess who we are hanging out with at Irish dance class this afternoon? Michael Patrick Gallagher , Riverdance lead and co-owner/teacher of Cat's Irish dance school, Tir Conaill Academy !! He will be teaching at Tir Conaill today! Can I hear a whoop whoop?! Her weekly teacher is Christopher McGrory , world class champion dancer, platinum selling Irish musician, and owner of her school as well. Chris is also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet! (and his music is fantastic!) This kid of mine found the Irish pot of gold when we found Tir Conaill Academy ! Cat wants to share a video of Michael Pat dancing. She'd like to show you what she's learning. Irish dance is just incredible to watch. She recently started...
