Wishes Served Up Daily

Wishing is BIG business at our house.  I realized this yesterday when my daughter made it her mission to turn my frown upside down.  She came in with her bag of wishing tricks and a fairy wand determined that she was going to wish away my day of doldrums.

"All you need, Mama is Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust!" she exclaimed while laying out her wishing implements. (no kidding...She calls herself the Wish Fairy...)

Here are her assorted tools of the trade...

Mystical Wishing Tools

While she was working her magical mojo on me, I pondered all of the ways we get our wishing on at our house.  Turns out, we do a lot of wishing around here!

We wish on stars and birthday candles.  We toss coins in fountains at the mall to make wishes  (You're welcome, malls all over America for my enormous financial contributions over the years...)  We send our well wishes out in cards to celebrate special occasions like holidays and birthdays.

We blow on dandelions. We close our eyes and wish on necklace clasps that have found their way around to the front of our necks. We blow bubbles and know when they pop that our wish will be granted.  Heck, we even have a genie lamp!

We wish on snowflakes (a rarity in Tucson!) We make a wish whenever we notice the clock reads 11:11.  And of course, we've been known to go a little nuts at Thanksgiving over the wishbone.

I've always wanted a wishing well.  This one will do nicely if I can convince Disney to send it my way...(I'll get Catherine aka Wish Fairy to work on that one pronto...)

Which brings me to my Wish List...Yep, I even have a special notebook that I keep all my wishes in.  (I'm such an organizing freak that I even catalog my wishes!)  I love going back through it to see what I've wished for over the years:)

Here are two favorite wishing moments...

Catherine on her 6th birthday wishing good things for her family...

Connor (at age 5) on the beach in Florida wishing for a bucket of LGM's (Little Green Men) from Toy Story on our trip to Disney World the next day...
(Teen Caveboy will deny that this is actually him because he wouldn't be caught dead blowing sand wishes on a beach...sorry dude! It was captured on film nine years ago for my eternal viewing pleasure and for your eternal embarrassment.  You're welcome!)

While my little Wish Fairy was putting her final touches on her wish making for my immediate happiness, I asked her what she thought about wishes.

"Wishes are prayers that look really pretty!  God loves to hear your wishes!"

And with that, I will leave you with words of wisdom from this wee sage...

You see, the most fantastic, magical things can happen, and it all starts with a wish!” ~ Jiminy Cricket

So tell me...
How do you get your wishing on?

Wishing you a lovely day!

Soooo cute!
In our household... we wish on shooting stars, candles, cards, dandylions... all the usual. And for the extra needed wishes... good ol' fashioned prayer until I weep.
Oh my gosh I loved this post! So sweet! LOVE the wishing bag. I want a little girl. Awwwww <3

Have a great day!

I think your daughter may have just provided me with a new tagline: Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust!
I love that she has everything a wish fairy may need.

Apparently I don't wish enough. I typically only wish on my birthay candles, once a year. Oh, and that occasional shooting star. I need to work on getting my wish on.

P.S. for the record, I got warm fuzzes over that last one..."Wishes are prayers that look really pretty! God loves to hear your wishes!".

Bless that sweet little girl's heart! I just love her saying "All you need, Mama is Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust!".
I don't thinke we have enough wishes in our house, maybe tonight I will teach the kids how to wish upon a star....

I love this. What a wise little soul you have on your hands, Dawn. And what a kind heart she has, to come to you & want to know your wishes.

It IS amazing how many things we wish on. My kids always wish on eyelashes.

I make wishes in my head at any old time. :)

Your fairy sounds like a MUST in every house.

Wanna send her over? :)

Most of my best advice has come from cartoons, just don't listen to Road Runner ... hehe :). Just playing I think wishing gives us hope and something to look forward to!
Love it. She is wise beyond her years. My granddaughter calls dandelions "wish blossoms". We can all use more wishing in our lives. Tell her thanks for the smile today.

I love the wish fairy! How sweet! I think my main thing is that I hold my breath and lift my feet up over train tracks for a wish and I wish on 11:11.

I'm wishing that I wasn't feeling so down today. That my "new" haircut wasn't awful and that I didn't spend $90 on an awful haircut.

I think my wishes start off as daydreams and then it becomes a light bulb moment. Maybe I should write them down and that way I can look back and see which ones come true.

May all your wishes come true. That is what I wish!
Awwww, how sweet she was trying to wish your doldrums away!

We do the same sort of wishing you do - along with wishing on an eyelash. :)

I love to make wishes! but even more than making wishes I love to hear what my children wish for! We mainly wish while blowing out birthday candles, and on a falling star.

I loved this post. In fact, I did one similar (but not as good) a while back about about how my first graders picked their favorite wishing method. They said the most effective way of wishing is the wishing time, which is apparently 11:11 AM.
That is so precious! I love it! I remember being little and being obsessed with wishing on everything; stars, the full moon, necklace clasps....everything. Maybe I need to go back and start making some more wishes!
When we wished on the moon we always said; "I see the moon and the moon sees me, God bless the moon and God bless me." then we would make our wish :) I still do that with my husband when I see a full moon!
Wow, your little wish fairy is not only a cutie, she is amazingly wise. I believe also God loves to hear our wishes. {hugs} out to your wish fairy!

She's so precious. When I was little, the lady down the street had a wishing well and I always wanted to go visit it and make a wish!

I think I need to work on the wish department, although, since I have three healthy boys I must be doing something right.

I have a wishbone necklace! I get double the wishes when the necklace clasp moves to the front of my neck ;o)
What a wonderful post! I want a wishing well too :)

I love it - "wishes are prayers that look pretty!" Perfect. My youngest son wished that when we build our house, his dad will have a superlide from the upstairs to the downstairs! LOL

I love all your kinds of wishes!
Thanks for stopping by Misadventures it was great to see you over there!

What a great post! I gave up wishing on stuff, or by throwing things in stuff, or blowing things out the first time I saw a shooting star, made a wish and the damn thing didn't come true...I mean COME ON shooting stars are like the freaking Bentley of wish vessels and even that didn't work.

Awww that is so sweet. We wish on eyelashes and birthday cakes and necklace clasps in the front. I think I need to start incorporating a few of the others you mentioned, too!

What a sweetie!

Oh, and we always grew up knowing that if we told someone our wish, it wouldn't come true.

A Wee Drop of Irish (or Cloudy With a Chance of B*tchy Part 2)

Happy St. Patrick's Day! How about a wee stroll down memory lane?  Thank you to everyone who messaged me about sharing this blast from the past again this year:)  (yes, Maureen...I do read your emails too!)  Even though it was originally posted in 2009, not too much has changed (says Dawn in her "I can't believe I have PMS every single year at this same time"  happy (think Pharrell singing "Happy") voice.  So grab a cup of Irish coffee, Jameson whiskey, Guinness or whatever suits your fancy on this fine St. Patrick's Day and let me share a tale of whimsy with you.  (and may the luck of the Irish be with you if you come my way today!  Don't say I didn't warn you!)

Oops! What's she doing here again? Wasn't she just here a month ago? UGH! The nerve! We had so much "fun" last time she was here, didn't we?

Well, since I have a full day of Irish activities planned, I guess I better be gettin' my Irish on....hmm...let's s…

Chilly Update...

I hate this disease with a passion...more on that in a moment...

First and foremost, there aren't enough words in the English language to convey my most sincere gratitude for the amazing love and support you've all shared with my family. I am completely overwhelmed and very humbled by it all. I've shared all of your comments and emails with Chilly and the kiddos. It has meant so much to us! Thank you, thank you and thank you again!

I wish I could write that Chilly is fine and coming home tomorrow. I wish I could go back to last Friday when every fiber of my being was screaming at me that Chilly was having a heart attack. I wish I would have pinned him to the ground and shoved an aspirin down his throat when he put me off about his symptoms. I wish he would have agreed to go to the ER...Sadly, I can't turn back time...

We were told today that Chilly has suffered a stroke in addition to a heart attack. These two events occured together...meaning, he had the stroke w…
