You're Wearing What?? (I'm Not the Only New Stripper in Town!)

Before I get started on my daily rant, I want to say a big Thank You for all the birthday wishes for Cat! Big hugs to all of you!!!! Now, let the ranting begin...

I know why Ken broke up with Barbie. He found out she was pole dancing on the side. But you may already know this. I am just returning to the land of Barbie after a 35+ year absence. (I was a Malibu Barbie girl...)

Saturday I was out doing a bit of last minute shopping for my daughter's 6th birthday. My daughter recently started getting into the whole Barbie scene. The Barbies we have so far are all "princess" style...lots of big poofy ballgowns, tiaras, etc. For Christmas we decked out Barbie's rental pad (aka my coffee table..it was her temporary loft apartment) with fabulous furniture. For Cat's birthday we are gonna rock Barbie's world with an upscale mansion in the really nice part of town. I thought a few nice outfits would be a lovely housewarming gift for Barbie. Ball gowns can be so stuffy....

I hit the stores looking for fabulous fashions for our 12" girlfriend and all I can find are thigh high stockings, tummy bearing tees, ultra mini skirts and stilettos. HUH? I'm pretty sure I'm not in Victoria's Secret or Frederick's of Hollywood...I'm getting kind of senile these days, but I know I'm pushing a red cart so I must be at Target. I start checking out the non-princess Barbies. Some of these girls are looking pretty trashy. That's when it hit me! Barbie is feeling the pinch of the economic crisis too! Poor girl. She's stripping for dollars so she can go on that nice cruise ship they keep taunting her with on tv. That seriously sucks. What kind of example is she setting for her baby sister, Kelly? I know that recently she has tried many careers...teacher, vet, baby care center owner and even a TV chef! Obviously she has champagne taste and a beer budget. The beer must be getting stale cause she's taking up dancing around a pole. I'm not judging her...well, ok..I am...and here's why...Barbie shouldn't be dressing like a hoochie mama!

Now, remember, I am 43...I'm from a different era..the 70's..peasant tops, bell bottoms and boots. (see Malibu Barbie photo above...see her granny panties..hee hee hee..) My Barbie had one style of strappy heels in mint green, yellow, purple and white. She had sensible pumps in those colors too. She did not have stripper heels or Victoria's Secret lingerie. I wish there was a line of Barbie clothes like these lovely ladies are sporting...

Sophisticated Burberry Outfit, Coat and Accessories...Nice!

Lovely Kate Spade outfit...perfect for shopping!

How nice it would be to find sophisticated fashions (heck just some decent jeans and t-shirts...maybe some yoga pants, tanks and some hoodies!) for my little girl's Barbie dolls without having to buy the "collectible" doll for $50,000 to go with it...ok...that might be exaggerating a bit, but they aren't $20! Catherine's Barbies need makeovers from ballgown babes to modern fashionistas! So here's what I propose...Any seamstresses out there? Hello???? How about you girls who can sew stitch up some stylish (and a bit more modest) clothes for Barbie and friends? Open up an Etsy shop and give Barbie a chic, hip place to shop...cause it's on Etsy...very chic...very hip...

I don't want to see my sweet little girl's Barbie dolls trapped in their ballgowns forever. I don't want to see them looking like they're waiting for their pimp to show up either. I just want a happy medium. Trendy not trashy! Any takers?

Uh-oh! Gotta run! I hear "bow chicka bow wow" coming from Cat's room...

**Also, check out The Sweet Jelly Bean's giveaway on her post! I want one! **

p.s. I am not really a stripper (lol..as may be misconstrued from title..) See my Gettin' My Irish Freak On post for details about why I may have to resort to this because of my daughter's love of Irish dance...hee...hee...hee...

yeah, Barbi is kind of a slut these days.
Seriously. What is Barbie thinking! My Barbie was lived in the height of working gal, evening fun. She wore a business suit complete with briefcase and the skirt reversed itself to a glittery knee length skirt! One more reason I'm glad I have little boys. Our biggest dilemma so far has been...do we let them play with toy guns or not. Oy!

I agree with you. My daughter has about 10 barbies, mostly of the princess variety because I can't stand most of the trashy clothes. And don't even get me started on the Bratz dolls...

Hasn't Barbie always been a Ho? My oldest liked Barbies-- but for my other girls I have tried to steer clear of them... Especially those dang Bratz! They are NASTY! {{snaps her finger}}

Your blog is beautiful. I will be back! :>

I posted about this at Christmas, but have you seen the comic book Barbie that looks like an S&M barbie? Classy.

bwahahha, see, if I was a mama, I'd be sayin' the same stuffs.

I HATE those Bratz dolls and the image they portray to girls. I wrote my thesis paper on them for my undergrad. They should be banned. Hoochies.

Barbie still isn't as trashy as those Bratz dolls. Now those are hookers.

The Blonde Duck is right. The Bratz dolls are the real ho's around here. I heard they've been arrested though.
My 3 year just got her first Barbie for her birthday in November. She has recently taken up an obsession with asking me, "where's Barbie's butt crack, Mamma?" Which sends her 7 year old brother in to hysterics. Barbie needs a Time OUT! .. Or a butt crack.

I remember the good ole days when there was one Barbie and then you just bought a few decent outfits for her. I miss those days.

Wow, I'm feeling really good about the fact that I have only boys now!
Everyone is feeling the pinch, aren't they?

Fun post, hope your day was great.

Oh my goodness! Yes! I was trying to buy some Barbies for my 6 year old niece once and I was like..."whoa, Barbies gone hooch-ay" I think I ended up buying her art supplise lol I was even more flabbergasted when I was playing Barbies with her later and discovered that her Hannah Montana Barbie was wearing THONG underwear! Seriously? and they wonder why today's teenagers are the way they are...makes ya mad doesn't it?

FUNNY post! I've collected Barbie for years now (though they're not being treated fairly, all 400 of them are stored in boxes in the attic, poor things!) But you're right - my Little Princess (who is also 6) has been getting into Barbie (and thankfully not Bratz!) but it is hard to find a 'decent' outfit for Barbie...what happened to Barbie being a 'decent' role model for little girls?

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, that enabled me to find your blog! I'm enjoying it very much...I'll be back often! :)
too funny - I have all boys - I don't keep up with Barb but I did own a red headed Skipper when I was a kid. I like the blueberry outfit

I'M STILL LAUGHING! BARBIE IS TAKING A WALK ON THE TRASHY SIDE, FOR SURE--BUT SHE STILL DOESN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO THOSE BRATS ON THE AISLE NEXT TO HER. THEIR LITTLE PLASTIC ACCESSORIES SAY NO, BUT THEIR BIG, FAT KISSY-LIPS SAY YES!

For some reason that Akon song "I wanna love you" is playing in my head right now and I'm invisioning my friends and I at our strip aerobics/pole dancing classes. (Mind you this was pre-pregnancy... can you just picture me and my lady lump movin' and groovin'?!? haha! wait, dont picture that!)

This is the best post!

Barbie really has started hanging out on the wrong side of the tracks. My favorite barbie came with a puffy "maternity" top and a newborn baby... Now, you can't find a strectch mark on that girl....

Tuesday's Tribute...Heartbeat..It's a Lovebeat

Yet Another Jay and Deb Production. I am paying my Tuesday's Tribute to Chilly. Today we celebrate our first Heartaversary. What is a Heartaversary, you ask? Well, settle in with a cuppa and let me weave a tale of wonder... One year ago today I was pacing the waiting room floor of University Medical Center in Tucson waiting for my husband’s surgeon to inform me if Chilly had survived his triple bypass. I’ll spare you the sordid details of how all this came about. I’ll just say that it was very fast and unexpected. The prospect of losing my spouse in my early 40’s wasn’t in my plan obviously. My plan was more of a “hanging with the kiddos, going to the Renaissance Faire, beating my son at Guitar Hero, driving my husband crazy for decades” kind of plan. But God always has a bigger plan for us. In this case, he was trying to keep Chilly on the planet for a while longer. As I have written before, Chilly has had two very challenging years. He has been a diabetic for a couple of decade
