Friday Fragments: Flush, Feis and Fabulosity

Join the Friday Fragments fun over at Half Past Kissin' Time! Scooty on over to join the fun!

We are busy bees here today prepping for Catherine's big day at her first feis (pronounced fesh) tomorrow! (A feis is an Irish dance competition.) After going over the list of stuff I have to take, moonlighting as a stripper is actually looking more like a real job opportunity! I do want to say a HUGE thank you to my friends, Lisa and Una, who came to my rescue with the skirt and curly wig bun cover!

Friday Feng Shui Tip: KEEP THE LIDS DOWN! On your toilets, that is! Don't let your good energy go down the drains either! By keeping toilets and drains closed, you prevent your money and good vibes from being washed away. For a little extra umpf, tie red ribbon or use red tape around your water pipes (under sinks, behind toilets, etc.) This also stops the good vibes from being washed down the drain! It also helps increase your prosperity!

And while we are on the subject of toilets, why is it that Target, one of the most profitable businesses in the world, can't afford to put "a$$ gaskets" (aka paper seat covers) in their bathrooms? Come on, Target! You can do this! I hate having to do the whole "laying down the strips of toilet paper on the seat" thing. It just makes me irritated then I don't want to spend as much money in your store, Target. Wait...maybe you sell a$$ gaskets and this is your dastardly plan to get me to purchase them. Well, I am afflicted with a condition called "Mommy Brain" and by the time I leave the bathroom, I have forgotten about the a$$ gaskets....I'm still super irritated though...I just don't remember why at that point...so that's a big FAIL on your plan, Target.

Guess who sent me an email?? McDonald's! Yep, they sure did! They read my fancy McDonald's post! Jen (the McD's emailer) wanted to give me the heads up on a fabulous contest they are having to celebrate the McCafe! There's a chance to win a $50,000 Visa Gift Card and a $500 Arch Card! All you have to do to enter is submit a story on the link above about why you or someone you love deserves to win! There are 2 grand prize winners! I know you're going to rush right over there and write about how you & I should be the winners, right!? The contest ends on June 21 and you don't have to purchase anything to enter. Though I must tell you, you really should go have an Iced Coffee, Latte, Cappuccino or Hot Chocolate (so yummy!) Check it out! $50,000 buys lots of coffee and I'm LOVIN' that!

Here are a couple of great summer reading titles for you and the kiddos!
For your teen vampire readers, this series is pretty darn cool! It's the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and her daughter, Kristen. It's set in a finishing school for Vampires that are high school age. I've read the series, and the teens I've talked to that have read it love it too! "Marked" is book one. I read all 5 last week! The website has some great interactive tools too!

If you haven't read "The Lightning Thief" yet, what the heck are you waiting for??? It's the first book in an AWESOME series called "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." It's about a boy who discovers he is a Greek demi-god. He ends up at Camp Half-blood (camp to train demi-gods) and ends up on many adventures. My kids LOVE this series! It's filled with lots of Greek mythology. My son ended up having a real love for Greek history and mythology after reading them. There are 5 books in the series. Book five "The Last Olympian" was just released last week. I HIGHLY recommend this series! I loved it as much as Harry Potter!

The movie is being released by Disney in Feb 2010. It stars Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Uma Thurman just to name a few! It will be a huge blockbuster! Go read the books now so you're in the loop when all the hoopla comes out!

And all I can say is WOW about American Idol! That was a big surprise! The nerdanderthal (aka Chilly aka my husband) almost blew a gasket!

****
Finally, I would like to send very Happy Birthday wishes to my fabulous friend, Kim! She is a yoga teacher, awesome mother and a lovely soul! I love ya, Kim! Hope your day is delightful!

Wishing you a fabulous Friday!!!

xoxo

This is probably TMI, but I never use toilet seat covers.

I am very, very laid back when it comes to germs. I am like a cockroach and will survive a nuclear blast.
Best of luck to Cat today!! I'm excited to hear how it all goes!

P.S. Seriously laughing out loud at the a$$ gaskets! You are TOO funny!!

I am a big fan of the paper seat liner things. I totally think more places should have them! The only problem I have encountered is when it is an automatic flushing toilet...riiiiggghht when I get ready to sit down, the mofo flushes and there goes my perfectly laid out paper liner thingy. RE-DO! If those are not available, my mother trained me very early to be quite efficient in the toilet paper lining technique.

My wife loved the House of Night series. She read all of them so quickly.

UM...I got an idea, how about you just sit on the toilet and piss? Thatd save you lots of grief!!!!
Tracy said…
Um dear sweet Bobby G... gross. Think of the herps living on that toilet seat. *shudders*

I have this thing where I CANNOT sit down on a public restroom toilet seat. I know I know... it's probably fine {Kristina P has proven this}... but I just envision the person who COULD HAVE come before me to sit down. And what if said person is a big whorebag and has skeevey things going on down there. Then my down there gets said skeevey things. Gross.

Good luck to Catherine on her big day tomorrow!

As for the no ass covers for toilet seats ... Lysol makes a portable size spray. Buy one and carry it in your purse to save your life! I have one that I use prior to putting Babe into the shopping carts and also for cleaning the toilet seat prior to sitting my beautiful rump on it. OR take hand sanitizer and squirt some on the seat and then wipe it off with some TP. Works like a champ, yo!

Now I really want to read the Marked book...hmm...sounds like Twilight sort of. Also-Cannot BELIEVE Target doesn't have hover covers!ugh!

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who retains annoyance but can't figure out what the annoyance was specifically directed at.

And McDs? Way cool. We just had lunch there today as a special treat, and it was SOOO hard to turn down the iced latte they offered me, but it was past my caffeine cutoff period. *sigh*

Good luck at the feis. And the pole dancing is exactly why I worry about having Little Miss start with the Irish Dancing. I love it. It's cool. She'd be good at it. But the cost. Yowsers the cost.

I don't like those seat covers...I am an excellent squatter.

Aren't you glad you know that about me?

AI...no surprise. He shoulda left the week before with that note he mangled. The surprise is that Kris made it past the week before that (the week Allison was sent home). Didn't see that one coming, not at all.

I hope that the feis goes well! I'm sure she'll dance fabulously.

I need to go and buy me some ribbon and close my toilet lids. I had no idea that's where my money was going....down the toilet.

My daughter was just telling me that I should read The Lightening Thief series. I guess I'll have to sign up for it!
Beth said…
Uhmm. My mother taught me that you can measure a girl's drunkeness by how they sit on the toilet seat in a public place.

While I've never heard of someone dying from toilet germs, I don't want to be the first!

SO many great fragments this week, Dawn!! (I had to delete your Mr. LInky and put up a new one, though. For some goofy reason, the link lead to your 100th post!)

I am so excited about your book recommendation for The Lightening Thief! I'm moving to 6th grade next year, and Greek stuff is a large part of their curriculum for Social Studies. I will definitely be reading the series this summer!

I sure hope you're going to post some of that dancing!!

Toilet issue-So glad you entered the Go-Girl Giveaway! I'll cross my fingers for you :)

Off to enter the McDonald's contest! Have a terrific weekend :)

Soooo much bloggy goodness all in one post! YOU ROCK!!

I simply can't wait to see pics and/or videos of your daughter dancing. I LOVE Irish dancing!!!!

Keep up the fabulous posting and good luck in the contest!
Have a great weekend, and good luck with the dance!
I've read the House of Night books too-- I LOVE the main character. I have to read the latest one though. I haven't read the other series, and now I will have to! Right now I'm reading all the Laurell K. Hamilton books and those are NOT for teens. I think you have to be like 30 or 40 to read them. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I can't wait to see pics from this weekend! (and yes, I've stopped moping from my auto problems.)
You had a lot of fun things to say today...

I hope your daughter does well in the dance competition. As for stripping...have the hubs put a pole in the bedroom, try it out a while before handing out your resume. :D

Nice heads up on the McD giveaway. How about this...if I win I will give you some of it.

Hope you had a nice weekend. It has been too long since I've visited. I miss your charm.
*I'm having a super yummy giveaway, come on over. :)

Tuesday's Tribute...Heartbeat..It's a Lovebeat

Yet Another Jay and Deb Production. I am paying my Tuesday's Tribute to Chilly. Today we celebrate our first Heartaversary. What is a Heartaversary, you ask? Well, settle in with a cuppa and let me weave a tale of wonder... One year ago today I was pacing the waiting room floor of University Medical Center in Tucson waiting for my husband’s surgeon to inform me if Chilly had survived his triple bypass. I’ll spare you the sordid details of how all this came about. I’ll just say that it was very fast and unexpected. The prospect of losing my spouse in my early 40’s wasn’t in my plan obviously. My plan was more of a “hanging with the kiddos, going to the Renaissance Faire, beating my son at Guitar Hero, driving my husband crazy for decades” kind of plan. But God always has a bigger plan for us. In this case, he was trying to keep Chilly on the planet for a while longer. As I have written before, Chilly has had two very challenging years. He has been a diabetic for a couple of decade
