Twilight Tendencies and Dark Shadows

I've got a confession to make...

In honor of the midnight release of the Twilight dvd, I am going to let the bat out of the coffin and fess up to something you may not know about me.

I love Vampire Chick Lit.

I can already hear some of your brains wrapping around the weirdness of me reading Vampire love stories. It's true...I love them.

I think the roots of my love began for me in my youth watching this show...

The vampire chick lit marathon started last year at the library. There was this super hottie with shades hiding in the dark recesses of the fiction area. I felt this weird vibe that he wanted to bite me. I tried to get away but he managed to pop up wherever I was headed! Finally, he captured me in the cookbook section (stop snorting, Chilly), tilted my head back, fangs popped out and then...

Ok, so I'm making that up. (hee hee hee) Actually, I was waiting for my kids to choose their books when the library lady plopped down a stack of books to put away. On top of the stack was "UnDead and UnWed" by MaryJanice Davidson. The cover looked cute. (I am a big believer in judging a book by it's cover.) I grabbed it (and the kids) and off we went. I started reading it that afternoon and was hooked on the story of Betsy Taylor from that moment on. (MaryJanice, in the very tiny chance that you may someday read my little bloggy, I just want to say I love you and WHEN IS THE NEXT UNDEAD BOOK COMING OUT???)

I read all the UnDead books over the summer and then came....Twilight. I was mush from the moment I began it. I read the whole series and couldn't wait to see the film. I wasn't able to see it at the theater so imagine how excited I am for midnight to arrive tonight! (I will NOT be in line at midnight! I will pick my copy up tomorrow morning! lol!)

Just recently, my sweet little sister got me hooked on the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris which is now the HBO series "True Blood." I read every book and want more, Charlaine! Do you hear me? MORE!

So there you have it...I am a "sucker" for vampire chick lit (literature).

And listen Chilly, don't sit there and judge me...you know you love the old re-runs of "The Kindred." (Does anyone remember the names of the Vampire groups from this series?)

While we are on the subject of vampires, I have noticed that Catherine (my 6 yr old daughter) does have some very vampiric tendencies.....hmmm...

For instance, vampires are very beautiful creatures that like to dress elegantly and can sneak up on you very quietly. (that does sound like her...)

They also like to use Jedi mind tricks to convince you to do their bidding...(see how creepy this is getting?????)

They have superhuman strength (oh no...there was that time when Cat lifted up the end of her toddler bed to help me carry it...and she does like to lift my weights....uh...oh.....)

She also fries up like a lobster if she's near sunlight....yikes!

I guess I should have paid closer attention when at age 3 she would run around the house saying, "I suck your blood! I suck your blood!"

I better warn Connor....Cat has been wearing her shades during the day with alarming frequency...I'm off to fashion a necklace out of garlic cloves...Cat will be up soon.....

LOL...just don't tell her where any of us live! I've never read the Twilight series...I'm starting to think I'm the only woman on the planet who hasn't. I just don't see the attraction but everyone tells me they are wonderful. I guess someday if I totally run out of things to read I might be forced to try them. But I'm holding out for as long as I can....I've seen the obsessions that develop...and I don't want to be one of the "undead" :)

Anne Rice! Anne Rice! I'm not sure that you can convince me that any vamp movie can top interview with a vampire with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise!

I was a die hard Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan. Joss Whedon was a genius.

NOT a Twilight fan.
what a fun post - I dont have much interest in "vampire chick lit" LOL ... but I did watch Dark Shadows after school when I was a kid! I loved it. And, I definitely was into "Interview with a Vampire," "Lestat," etc. - before the series just wore me down and out.

I have to admit, I enjoy the series "True Blood" so much I started to read the first Sookie book. It wasn't my cup of tea at all. But I love what they're doing on the series!

Funny how different people like different TYPES of vampires LOL

Sorry...I do not share your addiction to these shows or books. What I do notice is your complete and utter devotion and enjoyment to them. And that is all that really matters... Right?

Hi Dawn! You should have a Twilight party! We are throwing one together at the last minute. I sent you an email, but the cupcakes we are doing are red velvet so it will look like blood when you bite into them. Then the top is frosted white and has red marks that look like punctures. We are also have a Twilight trivia contest with prizes. And other food we are dong is: veggie tray (they are vegetarians), apple with caramel dip, popcorn with red hots and red licorice.

Have a fun weekend!

XOXO

I just knew there was something a little odd about you....(kidding....) My hubby thinks I am nuts...we are both avid readers, but I will grab a book just because I like what is on the cover...he would never think of doing that...

I had a really creepy vampire dream once..does that count? A dream within a dream...woke up seeing a vampire crawl in my window..and then I woke up again and it was the same light level as it was in the dream...creepy....MUAHAHAHAHAHA

(don't suppose it helped I was reading a vampire book when i went to sleep...)

That's a bit TOO MUCH vampire for me! Lol!

Although I am psyched for New Moon movie to come out!

Now if you turn George Clooney into a vampire...I'd be all up on that. ;)

Teach me the ways because I must not be reading the right series. I just don't like them.
If it's Vampires you like vs. Harlequin Romance...your safe. My entire family read the series. (Twilight) It was fun to have my sisters reading the same books as my nieces.

I wish I lived near you...I would (invite myself over) bring over some liquids, popcorn and chocolate to watch the movie. I didn't see it either. I look forward to your review. Hope the necklace is working.....

*Great post!

So I was actually trying to comment on your hot elf post and the fact that you decorate your Christmas tree for the holidays but Blogger is being a bastard and I couldn't find the post to comment on. I wonder if that is why I have no comments today -- I think things may be messed up on Blogger or something.

Anyway, PopTart and baloney sandwiches sound like the most disgusting thing in the world.

This is the most non-comment comment ever. Oh well -- I'm tired and cranky.

A Wee Drop of Irish (or Cloudy With a Chance of B*tchy Part 2)

Happy St. Patrick's Day! How about a wee stroll down memory lane?  Thank you to everyone who messaged me about sharing this blast from the past again this year:)  (yes, Maureen...I do read your emails too!)  Even though it was originally posted in 2009, not too much has changed (says Dawn in her "I can't believe I have PMS every single year at this same time"  happy (think Pharrell singing "Happy") voice.  So grab a cup of Irish coffee, Jameson whiskey, Guinness or whatever suits your fancy on this fine St. Patrick's Day and let me share a tale of whimsy with you.  (and may the luck of the Irish be with you if you come my way today!  Don't say I didn't warn you!)

Oops! What's she doing here again? Wasn't she just here a month ago? UGH! The nerve! We had so much "fun" last time she was here, didn't we?

Well, since I have a full day of Irish activities planned, I guess I better be gettin' my Irish on....hmm...let's s…

Chilly Update...

I hate this disease with a passion...more on that in a moment...

First and foremost, there aren't enough words in the English language to convey my most sincere gratitude for the amazing love and support you've all shared with my family. I am completely overwhelmed and very humbled by it all. I've shared all of your comments and emails with Chilly and the kiddos. It has meant so much to us! Thank you, thank you and thank you again!

I wish I could write that Chilly is fine and coming home tomorrow. I wish I could go back to last Friday when every fiber of my being was screaming at me that Chilly was having a heart attack. I wish I would have pinned him to the ground and shoved an aspirin down his throat when he put me off about his symptoms. I wish he would have agreed to go to the ER...Sadly, I can't turn back time...

We were told today that Chilly has suffered a stroke in addition to a heart attack. These two events occured together...meaning, he had the stroke w…
