Pop-Tarts and "Baloney" Sandwiches (Again!)

(Today I am taking a cue from my dear friend, Pam and re-visiting a post from my early days. It's silly and reminds me how much I love my Grandma Gigi and her Pop-Tart eatin' ways! I am taking a day of rest so I can get back to my super stalking, comment love spreadin' ways tomorrow! Hope you have an iron stomach!)

My grandma Gigi eats PopTart and bologna sandwiches.

PopTarts as the bread part and bologna as the filler! Oh...and they have to be strawberry PopTarts. What the?!

The first time I saw her do this I stared in disbelief. She giggled and kept eating it.

"It's good!" she assured me.

"Hey, if it works for you, Gigi, then I'm good," I smiled (a fake smile because inside I was mortified!)

"You want me to make you one?" she asked, licking her lips.

This is a sandwich that I can't even be in the same room with, let alone attempt tasting it.

"No thank you," I ran from the roomi in horror. Seriously, Gigi?! PopTarts and bologna?! Super yuck!

My other grandma (who is watching me from Heaven...and hopefully will not haunt me for this little tidbit I'm about to share...) liked to eat hog brains and pickled pigs feet. Can you imagine?! What kind of crazy family was I born into?!

I'm not a picky eater. I am willing to try just about anything. I've even tried rattlesnake and chocolate covered crickets. I draw the line at breakfast pastries and deli meats in sandwich form. No way...no how. And pickled pigs feet? You don't know where they've been!?! Eeewww!

My mom eats peanut butter on her pancakes. My dad, son of the hog brains lady, eats like a normal person....not too exciting...(probably because he was surrounded by hog brains and pickled pigs feet as a kid...)

The most exciting thing I've seen my husband eat is Lea and Perrins sauce on his steak. I know people that put jelly in their soup beans and ketchup on scrambled eggs. I don't know if I would eat it, but still not too freaky.

I did actually eat clam chowder and chase it with a nice hot cocoa when I was pregnant. That was a lovely meal. (My intestines, however, didn't see it that way and quickly "returned to sender.")

Now that I've made myself nice and nauseous before breakfast, I think I'll wrap up this post. My kids are hungry for their morning meal of fried cactus and diet coke.

Ok..so what's the weirdest thing you've eaten? Do you like strange food combinations? Come on, friends! Spill it!

Enjoy your Thursday!

PS..If you scroll down to yesterday's post, you will see some of the items in the giveaway!

Wow, those sure are some 'interesting' combinations! LOL

I like normal food. No weird stuff going on here...unless you count dipping grilled cheese sandwiches in ketchup. Hubby thinks that's weird. I think it's yummy.
Oh I so remember this post!! I think this is when I began blog stalking you - :)
Thanks for the memories & all the many smiles & laughter you share everytime I get to visit!!! :)

Nothing I've ever had can possibly compare with rattlesnake, or chocolate-covered crickets. I did once eat something called andouillette in France, and made the mistake of asking what was in it...

pork brains??!!!! my great grandfather used to eat all this smelly fish ... i remember one day coming home from church and finding a bucket of live eels on our back porch... some one had mistaken our house for his!!!

I have rocky mountain oysters, and I have to admit, they were good. Although at the time when I found out what they were, I wanted to deny it. lol

ok...I could do the pop tarts and bologna...I like my bologna with chips...my gram used to eat jello salad with mayo...I kinda liked that too...but pig brains...uh no thank you...
I haven't tried anything too unusual. My Grandad used to always have pickled pigs feet in the fridge and vienna sausages in the pantry. YUCK!.

My husband puts ketchup over his french toast. Not too gross, but odd still!

This is the perfect post for me to read after falling off the wagon. After reading that, I'm not hungry anymore;0)

Pop tarts and bologna???? That is hilarious. I like cavaiar and alligator tail is really good. I havent tried anything really exotic either. I dont make wierd combos I guess but my kids like to dip their chicken nuggets in the carmel sauce. Yuck.
I saw your comment about the white peacock, you must live in Tucson! I have seen that one when I lived there about 10 years ago. It is beautiful!

I made it as far as the picture of the pork brains in milk gravy...

Although you wouldn't know it to look at me, I'm kind of a picky eater. This made me throw up in my mouth a little!

Do you think that your grandma Gigi discovered this one while preggie, and just couldn't give it up?? Seriously--- ICK!!!
I am a pretty safe eater. I wouldn't say picky, but that is what most picky people say, right?? The canadian in me still loves dipping grilled cheese sandwiches in ketchup, does that count? :D
Hi Dawn!

Thanks for dropping by my place and leaving such a nice comment! I love your blog. And all of those foods - wow! I have never heard of a poptart and bologna sandwich before.

It's so nice to meet you!

XOXO

Wow!!! That is pretty funny....I am betting grandma was a real character...LOL! My question is...why did she ever try it in the first place? What gets into someones brain to say...Gee...I think I will try pop tarts...and a slice of boloney??? I can honestly say that I don't eat anything to strange....My mom used to eat onions like apples though....and my dad likes his bacon practically raw...

wow! that is so fascinating! but it strangely sounds good..sort of like a sweet and savory play, you know?
the weirdest stuff I've ever eaten has to be silkworm puppae...I almost puked.

I've had spam and tofu burgers. Bleah.

Ok. I like balogna. And I like pop tarts. But together--nope, nope, nope.
It is fun to repost early posts again. When I reposted the other day I got something like 33 comments. First time around it got 2. Let me know how this turns out!! Thanks for your sweet, but unnecessary email last night. No need to explain, kids and family come first..always.

I loved this post, I can't imagine eating that sandwich. I don't really eat either of those things to begin with.

Hope you are having a good day. Off to dance? We have had wonderful weather so far this week. Today, though, the temperature has dropped and the wind has picked up. Oh, well, back to reality!

Yup I can't get over pop tarts? Really I love them but with something that is said to be lunch meat?? I'm just not so sure! LOL

I'm so just a norm type of eater. Maybe I need to try that coffee that the cat eats the bean and then let's just say nature takes its course and you then brew it. Yup a few extra hundred dollars I would so be rushing out for that one ... LOL

I am uber picky so there's probably not a thing in my life that I've eaten that could be called weird.

oh ew! Well...I've just gotten up and ~was~ ready for breakfast... now, not so much!

I think the weirdest things I have eaten are peanut butter on my icecream (unless it's mint chocolate chip, a flavor of cheesecake icecream or cookie dough....putting peanut butter on those is sacrilege) and fluffernutters. Other than that, Im not really adventuresome in my foods.

I love weird food and I will try anything--even Granny's Pop Tart and baloney!

The strangest food I've ever eaten was at this over-the-top restaurant that had like 25 courses--not only was the food itself weird, it was served in weird ways--like one of the things we had to suck through a tube and there was some butterscotch-covered bacon hanging on a trapeze!

I have tried pig brains and pig cheek--didn't really like it though!

I seriously hope you are joking about the poptart and bologna sandwich??!?!

My grossest things are probably ketchup in mac and cheese and sugar on my cottage cheese! ;)

I have eaten a live grasshopper and it was good! Tastes like a cross between canteloupe and watermelon.

P.S. the reason WHY I did that was because I was in survival training when I was flight crew in the USAF Reserves. ;-)

your grandma must have fabulous burps.

My childhood best friend used to eat Hershey bar sandwiches. It was like a grilled cheese, but instead of cheese there was chocolate. I love chocolate. A lot. But, THAT? Was disgusting.

My husband once made me "bacon bread", which is bread fried in bacon grease. Horrid. Some things you just shouldn't eat.

I just had to stop back by and say hi and thank you for all your amazing kind words! You my dear make my day and I'm so happy that I stalked you and made you my new BFF :).

Much Love!

At first I thought bologna and pop tarts sounded horrible, but the idea is growing on me. If you read the ingredients in bologna it actually makes it easier to choke it down with some sugar.

UM, YUCK! I AM NOT TERRIBLY PICKY EITHER, BUT I AM RATHER "PURIST" WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD. NOW I LIKE MY MEXICAN FOOD, GREEK FOOD AND CREAMY SAUCES ON ITALIAN FOOD, DON'T GET ME WRONG. I DRAW THE LINE, HOWEVER, ON WEIRD BODY PARTS (OF ANIMALS) OR WEIRD ANIMALS--I TRIED TO EAT A HARD BOILED QUAIL EGG AT A FANCY-SHMANCY SALAD BAR ONCE AND HAD TO SPIT IT OUT INTO MY NAPKIN! ICK!

Are you joking about the pop tart and bologna sandwich??? I love pop tarts and bologna, but I don't think I'd like them together...

Are you serious about the bologna and poptarts,or was that a joke? I can see eating that maybe if I was pregnant. . .but only then. My grandma used to eat some crazy Japanese food (she's all traditional) that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, but I have no clue what they were called.

Pop tarts and Bologna that is yucky!
Instead of syrup, my dad puts mayonaise on his french toast. UHG.

I'll bet your grandmother grew up during the Depression. My mom did and she ate weird things, too. When my dad was in Vietnam, she'd fix me a pot pie (love those frozen things!) and she'd have anything from pig's ears, pig's tail, even the snout! And souse--we always had that in the fridge.

My cousin puts ketchup on her mashed potatoes and stirs them up till they're pink. And my daughter puts ranch dressing on tuna fish. I'm very picky--probably the strangest thing I eat is honey mustard on my fries!

Tuesday's Tribute...Heartbeat..It's a Lovebeat

Yet Another Jay and Deb Production. I am paying my Tuesday's Tribute to Chilly. Today we celebrate our first Heartaversary. What is a Heartaversary, you ask? Well, settle in with a cuppa and let me weave a tale of wonder... One year ago today I was pacing the waiting room floor of University Medical Center in Tucson waiting for my husband’s surgeon to inform me if Chilly had survived his triple bypass. I’ll spare you the sordid details of how all this came about. I’ll just say that it was very fast and unexpected. The prospect of losing my spouse in my early 40’s wasn’t in my plan obviously. My plan was more of a “hanging with the kiddos, going to the Renaissance Faire, beating my son at Guitar Hero, driving my husband crazy for decades” kind of plan. But God always has a bigger plan for us. In this case, he was trying to keep Chilly on the planet for a while longer. As I have written before, Chilly has had two very challenging years. He has been a diabetic for a couple of decade
